Scollege is the college-age ministry of Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas, TX. Like all Christians, we’re in process so this leaves us open to everyone. Come with us!
Our M.O. is “together growing and sowing for the sake of the gospel” which means we’re committed to growing personally, edifying one another in fellowship, and extending the Gospel of Christ to those around us in our realms of influence. We meet on Sunday mornings at 9am in the College Room (147) at Scofield, we have weekly Bible Studies, and we have monthly fellowship or service events. On the main page of www.scollege.org is a blog mainly written by Mike Willis and the students in the ministry so we can publicize testimony of what the Lord is doing and what we’re learning.
During our meetings, we have some fun, pray for one another, hear from God’s Word, and sing some deep songs about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We try to be intentional about becoming more Christ-like which means we care for people spiritually and physically. Christianity is a combination of heart, mind, and hands rooted in the missional character of God who reached in to our lives to redeem us from original and behavioral sin.
We have students who attend college locally and students who attend college elsewhere in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arizona. Our students are each encouraged to get involved in campus ministry (and a local church if they are away from Dallas) whether through an established organization or by starting a Bible study or prayer group of their own.
The ministry was started in the summer of 2004. We all need the Truth and we all need love - God’s love and one another’s love. We’ve studied a lot together including Ecclesiastes, Ephesians, the attributes of God, spiritual disciplines, Joshua, 1 Corinthians, and the Missio Dei traced from cover-to-cover in the Scriptures.
We’ve served locally by helping build habitat homes, facilitating Bible Clubs with international families from Africa, Mexico, and Central America, and sharing the Gospel at our schools and in our communities.
In July of 2006, we went to Kenya for 2 1/2 weeks and shared the Gospel with over 10,000 people by visiting schools, orphanages, and public markets. The Kenyan culture was a blessing because of its understanding of spiritual need and their welcoming warmth. We hope to return during the Summer of 2008. In May of 2007, we went to New Orleans to join Samaritan’s Purse in the Katrina rebuilding process. (By the way, Samaritan’s Purse is a SOLID disaster relief organization and we will support them for the rest of our lives!). We gutted the house of Velma and Lucius Thompson to remove mold growing within their walls and above their ceilings since August of 2005. It was humbling to serve them because they had lived in this home for 50+ years!
Every month, we give to an orphanage we visited in Kenya. There are 26 orphans there, 4 beds, and a $40/month rent that is difficult for them to pay with the needs of the children.
We would love for you to come join us in our pursuit of knowing God and helping others to know Him also!
